What?
The 2026 LAKE NORMAN YOGA POSE UPGRADE Program is a 10 part series of individualized sessions that combine structural manual therapy bodywork and 10 foundational yoga postures (Asanas).
If your yoga practice is important to you, then this asana upgrade program is a great way to deepen your practice.
10 Poses. 10 Sessions. 1 Upgraded Body.
WHY?
Imagine going to your yoga class and feeling excited about moving with more ease, less stiffness and more confidence. By addressing your structural/physical barriers to growth in your asana practice, you can gain more fluidity in movement while reducing compensation patterns, and reducing the risk of injuries.
The program is not designed with aesthetics in mind, but to work with your individual body and your own goals.
WHO?
Dr Tony Peters and client will focus each session (10 total) on a fundamental yoga posture. Dr Peters brings 25 years of his clinical holistic bodywork practice to the table. Extensive supplemental training in fascial manipulation and soft tissue therapies, and a couple decades of experience with athletes, provide Dr Tony with a keen-eye in identifying ways to improve your yoga practice.
HOW?
Dr Tony will help Identify in realtime any myofascial and/or joint restrictions while you perform the specific asana for that session. Muscular imbalances and altered movement patterns may be identified as well. Session then progresses into manual therapy and/or joint manipulation (if desired/required) in the identified key areas. Home self care instructions provided.
Dr Tony works with the fascial lines of the body involved with the poses to improve fluidity of movement and reduce risk of injuries.

A MOVEMENT NERD? Some Science for you
Yoga involves whole body movement whether in slow flow or power yoga.
Whole-Body Connection:
Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that wraps around every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ. In yoga, stretching one area of the body affects this entire network.
Proprioception and Awareness:
Fascia is rich in sensory nerve endings, making it one of the body's most important organs for perception. Mindful movement in yoga enhances this "inner vision" (proprioception), improving balance, coordination, and body awareness.
Fascial Restrictions can have a negative effect on your yoga practice.
Here’s how:
Restricted Movement - Adhesions act like a snag in a sweater or a tight wetsuit, preventing this free movement. In yoga poses, you'll feel "stuck" or find it difficult to go deeper into a stretch, not necessarily because your muscles are tight, but because the connective tissue is restricted.
Widespread Tension - Adhesion(s) in one area (e.g., your lower back) can create tension along the entire fascial "line," affecting your ability to move freely in seemingly unrelated parts of your body (e.g., a restricted hip).
Pain and Discomfort - Adhesions can cause chronic pain and stiffness that make certain poses uncomfortable or even painful. The tightness puts pressure on pain-sensitive areas, which can impede your ability to relax into a posture or flow smoothly from one pose to the next.
Imbalance and Compensation - When one area is restricted, your body naturally compensates by altering its movement patterns. This can lead to misalignment and the development of new imbalances or pain points over time, making it harder to maintain proper form in yoga poses.
Reduced Proprioception - Fascia is rich in sensory nerves that tell you where your body is in space. Adhesions can muddle this communication, affecting your balance, coordination, and body awareness during practice.
